Sustainable agriculture and food security will be on the agenda at Global Agribusiness Forum (GAF), the world’s largest agribusiness forum, which will take place next Thursday (6) in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Established in Brazil, the event arrives in the neighboring country to bring together experts from the sector and discuss the challenges and opportunities of international cooperation focused on food security and sustainability in Latin America — an increasingly relevant topic in the face of climate change. One of the event’s panels, entitled “Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security”, will bring together Daniela Kallas, partner and director of Institutional Relations at Polvo Lab, and Gustavo Spadotti, general head of Embrapa Territorial. The moderation will be conducted by Martin Aguirrezabala, general coordinator of the Uruguayan Federation of CREA Groups (FUCREA). With Latin American agriculture gaining increasing relevance, the experts will discuss strategies to maintain the sector’s growth pace, align food production with the fight against climate change and, above all, provide universal quality nutrition. Latin America already plays a central role in global food production. Now, in addition to its consolidated position in the supply of grains, beef and poultry, the region wants to overcome challenges and reinforce its commitment to environmental conservation. Recent data from the FAO shows that 20 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean — about 73% of the region — are directly affected by extreme weather events, while many of these nations also face a high risk of malnutrition. To face the challenge, understanding how agribusiness can be an ally in climate issues is essential for the sector to continue advancing, ensuring food security and strengthening Latin America’s role in the global fight against hunger.
About the Global Agribusiness Forum
GAF is celebrating a special moment by arriving in Uruguay and joining Agro en Punta & Business, a leading event in the Uruguayan agricultural sector. The forum will bring together global leaders, experts and entrepreneurs to discuss innovative and sustainable solutions to the challenges of agribusiness. Organized by DATAGRO since 2012, GAF is recognized as the main global forum for the sector, promoting high-level discussions on sustainability, technological innovation, international trade, food security and public policies. Now, together with Agro en Punta, the event takes on a new dimension, offering a strategic environment for exchanging knowledge, presenting new technologies and generating business.
About GAFFFF
In 2024, GAF was held at Allianz Parque, in São Paulo, and also became a festival with a business fair (Fair), gastronomy (Food) and entertainment (Fun), the Global Agribusiness Festival (GAFFFF). The 2025 edition will take place on June 5 and 6, and promises to be the largest ever held, with more than 90 hours of content, 20 thousand expected participants and more than 180 companies represented. One of the novelties of this edition is the opening of GAF, traditionally restricted to invited guests, to the general public, democratizing access to discussions on the direction of agriculture and livestock farming. Among the main topics addressed will be climate change, preservation of natural resources and sustainable solutions to feed a constantly growing population. The edition will have the participation of DATAGRO, ABCZ, ABPA, Abrafrutas, Abramilho, Bionergia Brasil, Maizall, SRB and Unem.
