The head of the Agreements and Negotiations Department of the Latin American Integration Association (Aladi), Alejandro Bonilla, said this Thursday (6), in a panel during the Global Agribusiness Forum, in Punta del Este, Uruguay, that there is enormous potential for the countries of the Southern Cone, which are already specialized in primary agricultural items and goods, the so-called commodities, to advance further in the agenda of higher value-added products in global markets. “Today, world trade is kind of divided in half between basic products and those with added value,” he said.
According to Bonilla, it is also important to understand that when we talk about agricultural trade, we must also include services in this ecosystem – and not just products. The panel also included the participation of the president of DATAGRO, Plinio Nastari, and moderation by the former president of the Brazilian Rural Society (SRB), Cesario Ramalho, one of the main leaders of Brazilian agriculture.
