Global Agribusiness Forum to debate livestock competitiveness in the Southern Cone in Uruguay

Next Thursday (6), Punta del Este, in Uruguay, will host the world’s largest agribusiness forum, the Global Agribusiness Forum (GAF). The event, a pioneer in Brazil, arrives in Uruguay to bring together experts and leaders from the agricultural sector to discuss the challenges and opportunities in international cooperation aimed at food security and sustainability in Latin America. The 3rd panel of the event, “New markets and competitiveness of livestock farming in the Southern Cone”, will have the participation of Alvaro Pereira Ramela, Market Access Manager at the National Meat Institute of Uruguay (INAC), and Marcelo Secco Arias, COO of Marfrig Conosur. The moderation will be done by John Octavio Figueiredo, Research Leader at DATAGRO Pecuária. According to Figueiredo, the event will be a strategic opportunity to strengthen South America’s position in the protein export market. “The panel will highlight the relevance of the protein sector in the region, at a time that is favorable for market expansion, especially for Brazil,” he says. According to data from DATAGRO Pecuária, the region’s thriving livestock industry – Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay – shipped more than 12.6 million tons of beef carcass equivalent last year. Now, these countries want to conquer new markets, while strategies need to be aligned with an increasingly latent demand for sustainability. Understanding the difficulties in the production cycle and combining them with imminent traceability becomes one of the sector’s main targets to maintain South America as a protagonist in the global protein market. In the panel, experts will address how the Southern Cone can reach new markets.

About the Global Agribusiness Forum

GAF is celebrating a special moment by arriving in Uruguay and joining Agro en Punta & Business, a leading event in the Uruguayan agricultural sector. The forum will bring together global leaders, experts and entrepreneurs to discuss innovative and sustainable solutions to the challenges of agribusiness. Organized by DATAGRO since 2012, GAF is recognized as the main global forum for the sector, promoting high-level discussions on sustainability, technological innovation, international trade, food security and public policies. Now, together with Agro en Punta, the event takes on a new dimension, offering a strategic environment for exchanging knowledge, presenting new technologies and generating business.

About GAFFFF

In 2024, GAF was held at Allianz Parque, in São Paulo, and also became a festival with a business fair (Fair), gastronomy (Food) and entertainment (Fun), the Global Agribusiness Festival (GAFFFF). The 2025 edition will take place on June 5 and 6, and promises to be the largest ever held, with more than 90 hours of content, 20 thousand expected participants and more than 180 companies represented. One of the novelties of this edition is the opening of GAF, traditionally restricted to invited guests, to the general public, democratizing access to discussions on the direction of agriculture and livestock farming. Among the main topics addressed will be climate change, preservation of natural resources and sustainable solutions to feed a constantly growing population. The edition will have the participation of DATAGRO, ABCZ, ABPA, Abrafrutas, Abramilho, Bionergia Brasil, Maizall, SRB and Unem.
